About MahaBamboo

MahaBamboo as an initiative was put forth by the Maharashtra Bamboo Development Board (M.B.D.B.) : A division of Forest Ministry of Maharashtra. It was created after realising the potential of Bamboo: a versatile material, researching on it immensely and sensing a great need for it to be brought closer to the general public.

This forum was established on the occasion of World Bamboo Day, 18th Sept 2019, and the overall objective of this is to create a platform which promotes Bamboo via a series of fun activities like Healthy Design Competitions, Lecture Series, Talks, Table Discussions, Expert Insights, Site Visits and Much More.

The name MahaBamboo was thought in a way so as to give two meanings Maha – which means huge or strong in Hindi and Maha also relates to Maharashtra. Thus MahaBamboolargelymeans ‘The Great Bamboo’ suggesting the greatness of Bamboo as a highly versatile Material.

About MahaBamboo Design Competition 2019 (M.B.D.C. 2019)

MahaBamboo Design Competition 2019 (M.B.D.C. 2019)is the first of the many events for the MahaBamboo forum which is initiated by Maharashtra Bamboo Development Board (M.B.D.B.), supported by Bamboo Research and Training Center (B.R.T.C.), and is structured and organised by Collaborative Organisation to Rejuvenate Events (C.O.R.E.). This is a National Level Design Competition which aims to bring about a general affinity, understanding towards Bamboo as a material in design fraternities like Architects, Product and Furniture Designersetc.and in general all the people relateto and like to explore with Bamboo as a material.

Aim

TheMahaBamboo Design Competition aims to turn the spotlight on the intrinsic characteristics of bamboo, a plant that has a thousand virtues, thus favouring its use in any design fields andcreating better understanding of Bamboo as a materialin the minds of young designers.

MahaBamboo Design Competition 2019 (M.B.D.C. 2019) envision to crush the taboos revolving around bamboo, to explore the material in every way possible.

Please Note: The competition has four design categories in total out of which your team can register for one or many of them. Each category contains its separate brief and submission requirements.

The Overall Categories for the competition are:

Architecture Design (AR: abbreviation used as a part of U.I.C.)
Product Design (PD: abbreviation used as a part of U.I.C.)
Furniture Design (FD: abbreviation used as a part of U.I.C.)
Installation Design (ID: abbreviation used as a part of U.I.C.)

U.I.C. is Unique Identification Code which the team will receive post registration.
